When I came across these citrus molds I couldn’t wait to make something fun and yummy with them.
My first thought was to do a spin-off of a rootbeer float by creating a citrus float with lemon-lime soda and these orange cream pucks.
While I used orange juice and heavy cream you could also opt for layers of orange ice cream and vanilla ice cream if you prefer an extra sweet treat.
I absolutely love how they turned out and they are such a fun summery treat.

This Peach Burrata Board is majorly crave-worthy.
This yummy board is covered in roasted peaches, juicy tomatoes, fresh basil, and creamy burrata and served with crunchy crostini.
While we don’t have an outdoor grill, we have found over the years that our cast iron grill pan allows us to make some of our favorite grilled foods.
And bonus, we can skip grilling in the hot and humid Tennessee heat by grilling indoors in the nice cool A/C.
I wish we could eat this every week!
But I can’t decide what my favorite part of this summer board is, between the crunchy sourdough crostini, the creamy burrata, juicy summer tomatoes, sweet local peaches, and fresh basil it’s just oh-so-good!

My first taste of mochi waffles was way back in 2016 on a special dental school graduation trip with my husband and in-laws to Maui.
And let me tell you, it was love at first bite.
I ate them every single day of our trip (and on 4 more trips we took in the coming years).
In 2021, I was pregnant and majorly craving them.
So I spent weeks making dozens of waffles trying to get it just right.
I spent so much time developing this recipe I wore out my waffle maker and I had to order a new one in order to be able to keep working on this recipe.
To say I was determined is an understatement.
And after all that delicious work, I finally created a recipe that tastes as close as we can remember to the ones we had in Maui.
This summer I thought it would be fun to create a Mochi Waffle Cake and of course, I had to use my favorite mochi waffle recipe and my go-to homemade whipped cream recipe!

This simple 3 ingredient recipe for Baked Honey Granola Peaches is the perfect sweet treat for dessert with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or for breakfast with Greek yogurt!
Every summer we look forward to driving out to our favorite summer peach stand.
They always have the most gorgeous peaches, and we have so many favorite peach recipes to enjoy them with.
As I was thinking about all of the ways I wanted to enjoy our peaches I remembered this recipe for baked granola peaches (that I first shared in 2014) and I knew we had a little bit of granola left in our pantry.
I had planned to just make it for us to enjoy, but then I thought that I should create a quick little video and refresh the old blog post, but that snowballed into me deciding to turn it into a whole new blog post because it seemed easier at the time.
Anywho! This recipe is one of my favorite simple summer recipes because it can be enjoyed in the morning with Greek yogurt or in the evening with ice cream.
It’s both versatile and oh so yummy!

I had so much fun making these DIY Seashell Candles, but I didn’t get it right the first time.
My original plan for these DIY Seashell Candles was to place a tea light candle in the center of each shell and then pour additional melted hot candle wax over and around it.
But that did not work!
I think it would have if the shells had been deeper, but because these were shallow shells the center tea light candle ended up being well above the wax puddle around it.
So I decided to start over.
Thankfully I had 3 shells left and plenty of candles.
The next challenge was the wick, which I had hoped I would be able to simply pull out from the base of the candle, but the wax was melted around and under the metal candle wick sustainer tab (that little metal piece that holds the wick in place at the bottom of the candle).
So to make it easy on myself I just melted the whole tea light candle.
Then once it was all melted I just pulled the metal tabs and wicks out and placed the wick back in the metal tabs.
From there it was smooth sailing. (Like my ocean pun?)
I thought about adding a scent to the candles, but since I don’t know enough about essential oils I decided to leave these as is.
And now that I’ve shared 3 seashell tutorials this summer I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Aren't these DIY Flower Candle Holders absolutely adorable?
They would be so fun for a summer dinner party or even a birthday party!
Originally I had planned to add bleach to the water, to help the flowers last longer than a couple of days, but I was too nervous to bring bleach anywhere near the marble counters.
We've had marble in our last 2 houses and plan to have it again in the house we are building (we love it!), and while I don't mind etching from normal use, I wasn't going to take a chance of any potential bleach spillage since these aren't our counters.
Alternatively, I also considered the baby oil trick (baby oil instead of water - I've also heard of people using olive oil) to preserve the flowers.
I've read that this baby oil method can help the flowers last up to a year (I've also read that for some the color of the flowers only lasted a week), but since I wasn't putting a secure lid on top, just a candle, I decided to stick with water.
Especially since I already have other plans for these vases so I was ok with them only lasting a couple of days.

Last summer I decided to create a DIY Outdoor Side Table, but I didn’t want a regular side table, I wanted one that I could store stuff in, specifically little Roger’s toys.
I saw several side tables that looked like this both in stores and online that were out of my price range, so I decided to just make my own, out of one of the most popular and viral planters of the season.
Although it is made out of plastic planters, and I was worried it might blow over, after several summer storms it didn’t budge an inch in this little alcove (because of its protected location on our covered patio).
Plus it helped that there were some of little Roger Dale’s toys inside it.
But if you do decide to make this planter and place it in a less wind-safe location, you can always put a cement block at the base (that is just a hair smaller than the planter) to help keep it from tipping over.
I also added a piece of rectangular wood to the inside of the lid (just slightly smaller than the width of the top of the planter) so that it couldn’t easily slide off.
It worked great all summer and little Roger Dale always knew right where to find his toys and they were protected from the wind and rain.

Roger loves homemade pretzels, so years ago I did a whole lot of research to come up with an epic recipe Roger would love.
I remembered from years prior (when making them once or twice) that a boiling baking soda bath for the pretzels (before you bake them) is the key step to creating perfect homemade pretzels.
Giving your pretzels a baking soda bath contributes to its signature flavor, beautiful golden crust, and soft chewy interior.
While a baking soda bath truly is the key to a perfectly soft homemade pretzel, I knew from times past that it needed something else to achieve a higher level of pretzel flavor goodness.
So after doing a bunch of research, I decided to add brown sugar to the pretzel dough, I knew this must be the secret ingredient to achieving the best homemade pretzels!
And boy, did these pretzels deliver the most delicious homemade pretzel taste!
Oh and do you want to know something funny?
After spending so much time developing just the right recipe and even after making it for years, I’m still a horrible pretzel twister!
Thankfully, Roger is better at making the classic shape of a pretzel.
So I always have him take over the pretzel twisting job while I dip them in their boiling baking soda water bath and prepare them for baking!
Hey, we all have different talents. Right?
His is twisting the pretzels and mine is eating them!

Picking wildflowers is such a relaxing and peaceful summer pastime.
I’ve spent so many memorable summer weekends at Roger’s grandparents’ Ohio farm in the summer and going on long walks on the backroads picking wildflowers.
And this little wood bead vase is perfect for wildflowers.
I created this specifically for wildflowers, but unfortunately my husband had just mowed our field and yard when I made it.
But that’s ok because I hope to enjoy this DIY Wildflower Wood Bead Vase for years to come.
This vase is perfect for daily picked wildflowers, especially by little hands who cut them short, as there isn’t a water source for the wildflowers.
But if you want to try to keep them fresh there are two ways to do this, the first is to spritz them with water a few times a day.
The second option is to glue the lace and beads 1/4 – 1/2 inches above the base. Then place it on a plate with a little bit of water so that the flowers stick through the beads and touch the water without the beads or lace getting wet.
Either way, this is a super easy DIY and a perfect way to display freshly picked wildflowers or leftover stems when making a flower bouquet.

Friendly Note: In the past, I’ve had people say things like “Why hide the pretty lace?” So I wanted to note that I can see it in real life. 🤗 Other options include using fewer flowers, using bigger lace, colorful lace, or no lace at all. I love little details. Having a variety of materials with different textures that are layered (even if you can’t see the full thing) can bring a whole piece together. Each element from the clear glass to the layered delicate lace, to the tiny flowers, to the soft candle glow all add something to the overall appearance of femininity. 💗

Last week I shared a tutorial for DIY Pressed Flower Candles and while I absolutely love them, I still have so many pressed flowers!
So I thought it would be fun to create a DIY Pressed Flower Candle Lantern.
This is a fun way to use up leftover glass jars while preserving and enjoying your favorite flowers of the summer.
I used a mixture of pressed flowers that I found online and ones that I pressed myself using the 4 flower pressing techniques I shared earlier this year.
As little Roger finds flowers in the yard and gifts them to me I bring them inside and press them in books.
And now I get to enjoy these flowers for years to come!

Let me start by saying how shocked I was by how much Roger enjoyed this Grilled Romaine Mexican Salad when I first made it 4 years ago.
Roger is not the biggest fan of leafy greens, but as he was eating this grilled salad he kept commenting on how much he liked it.
He enjoys vegetables in general, but when it comes to salad, he prefers more toppings (fruits, nuts, etc.) than lettuce.
But this Grilled Romaine Mexican Salad is how I tricked my husband into eating half a head of lettuce without even realizing it!
And yes, it is topped with corn, avocado, queso fresco, and a delicious homemade cilantro honey-lime dressing, but I still call it a win as he ate the whole thing.
I still can’t believe I was able to get him to eat half a head of lettuce in one sitting.
This grilled Mexican salad is really just that good!
And don’t worry, you don’t need any fancy outdoor grill to make this recipe or really any grilling recipe.
My trick is to use a cast iron grill pan whenever I want to grill something up for dinner.
No need to stand out in the hot sun and heat up a grill!
This pan makes it so easy!

Projects in our home are all about teamwork.
Similar to the DIY Living Room Built-Ins in our last house, the dream was my idea, and the plan/measurements were Roger’s. He went and found the materials, I paid for them, he built the table, and I stained it.
We considered ordering a coffee table to save us time (so we could work on other projects), as there are a bunch of similar ones online, but they cost 2-3 times as much as we wanted to spend.
And this one cost us less than $500 to do the DIY! (and it could be done for even less expensive if you DIY the table legs too!)
So while it did take time, making this all-wood coffee table was definitely worth it.

I love fun car accessories, but what I love most, is keeping my family safe.
We love all of these car safety accessories and wouldn’t want to drive without any of them.
I’m not a fan of being stranded in a parking lot or the side of the road needing someone to help me jumpstart my car.
So having a portable car charger (portable jump start battery) that doesn’t require the assistance of another car is a major game changer.
We always keep a car escaping tool in the center console of our SUV so that if needed either the driver or passenger can easily access it to cut their seatbelt and breakout through the window.
And finally, my husband’s new favorite is the portable handheld air/tire pump (portable air battery-powered air compressor).
So if any of our tires start getting low on air, we can pump them up quickly without regular power (it’s battery-powered) or having to be at an air compressor station.

I absolutely love Queen Anne’s Lace flowers!
The weekend Roger and I were married (12 years ago tomorrow) we drove through the countryside and I would hop out of the car every time we saw a large patch of wild Queen Anne’s Lace growing next to the road.
I harvested as much as I could reach and then we’d drive on looking for more along the side of the road.
The backseats and floor of my car were filled with these wildflowers.
We used them all over as a way to save money while decorating our backyard wedding.
When I saw them growing at the end of our driveway last year I knew I wanted to save/press them.
So I grabbed a bunch of books off of our living room built-ins and pressed handfuls of wildflowers and small leafy stems to create this DIY Pressed Flower Candle.
And as soon as it burns down low enough, I plan to use my flameless candle hack to make this DIY last longer and be more kid-safe.

I absolutely love fresh fruit in my drinks!
And in the summer it’s even more fun to freeze fresh fruit, especially hand-picked fruit, and water in ice cube molds.
With Independence Day right around the corner, I thought it would be fun to create Patriotic Fruit Ice with raspberries, blueberries, and pomegranate seeds.
Of course, you can totally swap out the fruit for whatever fruit you love best, like chopped strawberries, fresh blackberries, chunks of watermelon, or pitted/halved cherries (although the juice from the cut fruit may change the color of the ice).
I added my Patriotic Fruit Ice to these cute coupe cups, along with some sparkling water for an extra refreshing summer drink.
What’s your favorite fruit to put in ice?
Friendly Tip: Boiled distilled water makes the ice more clear (and I did use cooled-down boiled distilled water in the silicone mold), but in a regular ice mold water still freezes in any direction. For truly clear ice, you need a special mold so that your water only freezes in one direction.

Honestly, they turned out even better than I was expecting.
And these were even easier to make than the bag stars!
I found this tutorial a while back, I think around Christmas time, by Janice at @5minutesformom, and I thought it would be perfect for Independence Day decor too!
I spent some time looking for a pack of square paper that included red, white, and blue.
And after some extensive research online, I finally found a pack of square origami paper. I feel like the white is a little creamy, but I may just be a little picky.

When I saw this Tiny Portable Air Pump I knew it would be perfect for our trip to the Florida Keys.
Every summer (and sometimes during the winter) we drive 14 hours down to the Keys for a family vacation with Roger's family.
This year there were 26 of us all staying at the same condo complex.
Little Roger Dale had so much fun with his cousins!
And this Tiny Portable Air Pump made it so easy to inflate and deflate our shell float and ring float.
This tiny air pump is so powerful it says it can even inflate an air mattress and remove the air from vacuum bags!
