Workout at Home Favorites

I do a lot of my workouts at home as a busy mom in her mid-40’s. Lifting heavier weights has become really important to me as I age so I’ve been adding in heavier weights some days, and using lighter ones on others.

I’m always more motivated to workout in cute workout clothes and Amazon workout clothes are now my go-to! They are inexpensive and I love buying solid color tops, leggings and sports bras so I can mix and match them.

Sports bra is true to size and one of the nicer more sturdier made ones - wearing size small and I also have in black. This sports bras looks cute with sweatshirts with open backs or boat neck tops where you see the straps.

Love these leggings - so soft and comfy - wearing true to size workout leggings in size XS. I have these in several other colors.

Sticky socks come in a three pack of socks and I wear them for many of my workouts both with and without sneakers.

These were recommended to me by my eye doctor and I’ve been using them for 7 years!

Mid-Forties Mom nighttime routine

I’m a busy mom over 40 who doesn’t have a lot of time to spend on skincare and I don’t want to waste money on unnecessary products.

I don’t use a bunch of beauty products and it’s not a fancy or elaborate routine.

I focus on cleansing the skin and moisturizing (something important for our mature skin).

I start by removing my eye makeup with a lid scrub pad. I make sure to use either a different pad per eye, or use one side of the pad on one eye, and flip it over to use on the other eye. This way you don’t wash mascara and eye makeup all over your face when washing your face.

I use a gentle Neutrogena face wash at night since I’m applying my prescription Tretinoin gel after.

I like to use Cerave cream and Cerave ointment for my face, lips and hands.

I brush my teeth with a child’s toothbrush because I have a small mouth and I like the soft bristles. These also have a suction cup on the bottom of the brush which is convenient for standing up the brush when I’m done.

I’ve been using these nose vents for about 3 years to open up my nostrils better. I put them in before heading to bed and take them out first thing in the morning.

Easy Dinner Idea: Steak and Egg Salad

Start by marinating your strip steak in a glass dish with Worcestershire sauce. I keep in fridge until I’m ready to cook (taking out of fridge about a 1/2 hour before ready to cook).

I use the egg cooker to hard boil my eggs first. (When they are done, I place them in an ice bath for 10 minutes before peeling.).

While eggs are cooking pre-heat the oven to 400 degrees.

Next place 1-2 tablespoons of oil (usually grape seed oil - though I used olive oil in the video) Turn heat onto medium heat then sear the steak on each side ( I do 2 minutes per side, then 1 minute per side.) before placing in oven to finish cooking for about 8 minutes. Then let steak rest on cutting board for 10 minutes before slicing.

While the steak is in the oven and then resting, chop your veggies, and wash and chop your lettuce ( I like iceberg for this salad but used romaine here because that’s what I had)

Assemble your salad with the lettuce, veggies, chopped hard boiled eggs and sliced steak. I like to add salt + pepper and some homemade ranch dressing (I mix a ranch packet according to directions but sub yogurt for mayo)

Enjoy!

Roasted Sweet Potatoes in the Oven using the Veggie Chopper

I used my veggie chopper to save time in chopping my sweet potatoes. It’s much quicker and I also get sweet potato chunks the same size which makes them roast more evenly too.

There are different inserts which will give you larger or smaller chunks depending on which size you use. I am using the larger sized chunks one for the potatoes and onions - I usually use the smaller insert when I want tiny diced onions and celery for chicken salad or egg salads.

This chopper is easy to clean, makes chopping and dicing faster and I now keep it out on my counter because I use it weekly!

Here’s how I roast my sweet potatoes:

* Preheat the oven to 425 degrees. Chop several sweet potatoes and one onion and divide them evenly onto 2 parchment lined cookie sheets.

* lightly coat with grapeseed or olive oil and salt (or salt and pepper) and toss to coat.

* Roast for 30-40 minutes tossing every 10-15 minutes until browned, carmelized and to your liking.

This makes a great side dish especially during the Fall and Thanksgiving season!

DIY Halloween costume

Fluffy chicken costume I made for my daughter. I wrote a blog post on my blog: www.meatballmom.com - just search ‘diy’ or ‘costume’ for what I did.

I got items from Amazon and a craft store- but I tried to link up most things that could be purchased online.

I used a hot glue gun, safety pins, and a travel sewing kit - minimal sewing skills needed.
