In Pilates you start with the basics. Whether you’re on a mat or the reformer, you build your foundation first then progress. When I started Pilates a few years back, I thought the basics were easy and I needed more of a challenge. I’d add heavy spring loads, high hand weights, increased bands. It wasn’t until a teacher flat out told me “if you’re not getting work out of the basics you’re doing it wrong”. My first reaction was ego driven and I thought she was wrong. Once pride settled, I was able to see just how right she was. That began my quest to do it “right” to the best of my ability. This required a different type of focus that was more aware of my muscles and form. Next week ends my in studio training with the most incredible set of teachers in training and master trainer. I’ll still have many more hours of observation/teaching/training to do, but it’s a foundational block to the process. In the same way, the basics that we have in our closet are the essentials to build upon. I’ve been expanding each section to “The Essentials” so that you have more options, and I’m excited to share tonight’s essential: the basic white tee. It’s plain. It’s classic. It’ll never go out of style. Just like the rest of what I call “The Essentials”. LTKSale LTKSeasonal LTKFind
