So thought it might be useful to have a few prompts to help prevent you falling into a gym gear on repeat rut!!

🏃‍♀️Prep and plan your outfits in advance to stop you from reaching for the same few items on repeat.

🏃‍♀️If denim is a big part of your casual/school run wardrobe then try different shapes and styles.

🏃‍♀️Mix up your outerwear - cardigans, light weight jackets, leather jacket etc - as this will help you to look like your whole outfit is different even if you’re wearing the same jeans and top underneath.

🏃‍♀️Don’t forget about accessories - jewellery/bags/belts etc.

🏃‍♀️ Mix up smart and casual pieces so sweatshirts with skirts/trousers with slogan tees etc

🏃‍♀️ Don’t ignore your dresses and skirts as these can be just as good worn casually with the right footwear and layers too.

Blazers…

They are a wardrobe staple for a reason because they’re such a versatile piece that you can wear over dresses, skirts, trousers and denim; dress it up for work; down for casual and more or less everything in between. Never mind that it’s a brilliant option in this crazy weather.

And for the summer a linen blazer is something I wear on repeat.

You do need to pay attention to fit, fabric and style to make sure you get it right and it isn’t the case that a blazer will work with absolutely every item - as ever you need to to consider the proportions within the outfit. But if you want more details on this and what to look for/avoid then head to stories which is full of tips and info.

Workwear outfit ideas …

Working from home on zoom calls, dress down Fridays and office days - here are a few combos with trousers/jeans you can use as inspiration. Just use the outfit formulas and adapt from your wardrobe or head to stories for links. Many pieces have already been linked previously so do check my May and June highlights as well.

Here are a few tips:

💻 Have a mix of jacket shapes/lengths/colours to wear with different bottoms. It’s only by having enough variety in your wardrobe that you can create different looks.

💻 Similarly make sure you have more than one style/shape of trouser. And you can definitely mix your materials and wear leather or other less traditional workwear fabrics.

💻 if you’re wearing a jacket make sure the neckline doesn’t fight with the collar.

💻 I have only used loafers/pointed flats on this reel but swap in heels 👠 or ballet flats 🥿 as appropriate.

💻 For funny weather like this crazy British summer a trench is a great outerwear option.

💻 Working from home on zoom calls? Pretty blouses you can wear with jeans, some colour and don’t forget jewellery - will all help to add interest.

Summer layers …

Let’s face it we need them as the weather is not playing ball ☔️so here are a few different options I wear on repeat.

It’s important to have variety on your styles from a shape and proportions point of view because different styles work with different combos

For example shorter, neater jackets are better either way wide leg trousers and denim and balance out the volume on the bottom.

Whereas longer blazers/utility styles are very good with a slimmer leg jean.

There’s obviously lots more you can look at from quilted jackets to cropped trenches, bombers and more but it is always the proportions of an entire outfit that you need to consider together.

✈️ You don’t need an entirely new outfit for each day/night. Mix and match your pieces in different combos.

There is currently an annoying gap between what we might like to wear/ what is in the shops/what we see on Insta and what the weather is making us wear! So here are 6 ways to inject spring into your outfits while still dressing for the actual weather!

🍃 Layers layers layers. All the way. I’m still in thermals and my lightweight puffa is getting A LOT of use under trenches/light coats etc.

🍃 Swap black for navy for an instant spring hit.

🍃 Get some colour in your life - knitwear/accessories/trainers - whatever you can!! Lifts the mood and instantly feels more optimistic 🌈 it’s called dopamine dressing for a reason!

5 Tips if you have a large bust

1. Necklines - this is the one most people know: lower necklines create a sense of length through the torso and minimise the bust.

2. Sleeves - this is key: inserted sleeves are the most flattering so be careful of dolmans/batwing/grown on sleeves and dropped shoulders as these add unwanted volume at the bust. Also choose slimmer sleeves for the same reason and avoid sleeves that finish at mid bust.

3. Fabric - another important one: soft, drapey, light weight materials are best. Be careful with stuff, bulky, chunky, textured knits etc.

4. Fit - it’s a balance but oversized will make you look larger than you are. A style that shows your contours without clinging is often best.

5. Details - avoid details on the busy area so frills/slogans/pockets/buttons etc are not helpful.

And a couple more I couldn’t fit in the video -

Be careful with tucking as you want to create a sense of length though the torso. Add extra inches but blousing over your waistband.

See my previous reel on the art of distraction and put print/colour etc on your lower half to draw the eye away from your top half. Darker colours minimise while lighter ones will enlarge an area.
