I love wearing black with white, and I’ve been more into it in the gaze of a New York old money aesthetic: minimal classic sportswear.
Since I’m going for ease over drama, there are a few elements that I avoid.
Human checkerboard: alternating big pieces in contrasting color (I made a video about it). I prefer limiting the impact of black meeting white.
Big pops of color: I don’t like carrying colorful bags or wearing bright scarves with BW. Dainty jewelry with colorful gems or beads does add dimension and softness to BW, but a bright bag is too loud and cliché with this combo.
Color block accessories: imagine a bag with a flap in a color different from that of the body (not a bag that has a different color trim or embellishment). Such a bag would compete for focus with the outfit and just create noise.
Instead, I opt for accessories that harmonize with the contrast rather than mirror it.
