I grew up camping and loved those s’mores nights by the fire. Ever since, I’ve wanted to have a space where we could recreate those memories for our kids. We’ve got plans to build a garden that will eventually surround a fire pit area—and while the big project is still in the works, we decided…why not start enjoying a fire pit area now?

We haven’t landed on the fire pit just yet, but I did find the perfect chairs to kick things off. These dark-stained, classic Adirondack chairs from @loweshomeimprovement #lowespartner were exactly what I was looking for—foldable, easy to move, and they’ll look beautiful alongside a garden. I don’t typically go all out with holiday decor in the kitchen, but I love adding a few simple touches for an understated and classic look. Here are 10 easy ideas:

✨ Add a small wreath to the backs of chairs or stools.
✨ Place evergreen stems in a vase and tie a ribbon around it for a festive touch.
✨ Light a Christmas-scented candle—I’m obsessed with this woodwick option from M&Sense on Amazon. It smells amazing!

I added our Target Threshold with Studio McGee mixed pattern melamine plates to our china cabinet, and they instantly elevated the space. They were just too pretty to stack away! The soft blues complement our cabinet perfectly, making them feel right at home.

Classic White Kitchen: Bright, Warm, and Timeless ✨

I wanted this kitchen to feel bright, classic, and full of warmth. White is such a popular kitchen color, but to keep it from looking too plain, we added some special touches! The counters around the edge are a honed black quartz, which adds contrast, and the backsplash has a little shine to keep things interesting. We mixed metals with polished nickel and gold finishes, and brought in warm wood for the open shelves and bar stools. For a clean look, we chose inset cabinets that look a bit like furniture, and a sloped hood to soften the lines in the room.

Cozy, Fresh, & Refined Casual Primary Bedroom🤍

Moving forward, my goal for our home is to be more intentional with every space. I’ve started choosing three words to set the tone for each room. I’m letting these themes guide my decisions on what to bring in and what to remove because it doesn’t serve the space’s purpose.
For our primary bedroom, my three words are cozy, fresh, and refined casual:
Cozy: Bedrooms should always feel cozy. Think layers of soft bedding and plush rugs.
Fresh: I wanted a clean, light, and airy atmosphere. For the room to feel awake when the curtains are open and the bed is made and a color palette is calm and serene.
Refined Casual: I aimed for a balance—livable and casual, yet with understated elegance and refinement that comes from intentional choices.

This reading loft has become such a special spot in our home! 📚 It was our big spring DIY project to house most of our kids’ books. Before this, their books were crammed into two tiny shelves (and many were still in moving boxes). Now, they have a fun, functional space, and I love seeing them head over at bedtime to pick out a book. ❤️

Of course, the books are usually scattered everywhere, but I took a moment to straighten them up and reorganize them—and added a touch of decor to the space! 🌸

Amazon Drawer Organization ✨ Spring cleaning has officially started over here, and I’m kicking things off in the kitchen! These SpaceAid organizers (gifted) have made it so much easier to keep our storage bags, plastic wraps, and even the junk drawer in order.

My favorite is the bamboo dividers with inserts—I could set them up exactly how I needed for our junk/coffee/tea drawer without any wasted space! Eventually I would like to get more of those dividers to use in our utensil drawers too.

Before & After! ✨ One of my favorite ways to bring character into our home is by giving older, quality furniture a fresh new look—like this campaign-style Drexel dresser I refinished for our boys’ room! Also check out the custom beds we build & painted for their room next💙😉

If you have a dresser that could use a refresh, this ‘dipped look’ is a fun way to give it a modern twist!
Steps below 👇🏻😃

I refinished this by stripping the previous stain off the top and re-staining it with a custom stain mix. Then, I taped off the bottom two-thirds, primed, and painted it. After removing the tape, I top-coated the entire dresser. 💡Tip: Apply some topcoat along the tape line before painting for crisp tape lines!

Supplies Used: • Stripper: Klean Strip Premium • Paint: Inkwell from @wiseowlpaint  • Stain: Custom mix • Topcoat: Varathane Water-based Poly in Satin @varathane  • Hardware: Cleaned and lightly sprayed with @rustoleum Metallic Gold spray paint

If you have a glass door or window that could use a little extra privacy, this reeded glass window film from Amazon is such a great (and budget-friendly!) solution. It applies with just water, is easy to adjust, and can be removed without damage. We used it in our laundry room so that when the door is closed, the mess stays out of sight from the kitchen—such a simple fix that makes a big difference! It’s also currently on sale!

Painted to look like wood!

I love using this painting technique to make wood or other materials look stained! 🎨✨ It’s perfect for paint-grade woods that don’t stain well or for materials that aren’t wood but need that natural wood look.

Here’s what I used:
🖌 Base Coat: Sherwin Williams Pro Classic (satin) in Behr “Rugged Tan”
I usually prime first, but I skipped it this time since this paint has some built-in primer qualities. However, if you're painting furniture like dressers, I highly recommend priming first to prevent bleed-through and help with adhesion.

🎨 Glaze: Rustoleum Decorative Glaze in Java Brown
🔹 Application: Brush or spray on the base coat, then apply the glaze with long, smooth strokes using a deck staining brush to create grain lines.

For extra texture, I got creative—I used a Turtle Wax cleaner brush I found in our garage! 😂 But a whisk broom works just as well.

Finally, I sealed everything with my favorite topcoat: Varathane Water-Based Polyurethane (satin sheen). 🔥

Walmart Home finds ✨ Let’s break down our newest additions—these dining chairs we’ve been loving lately. 🏡

I added the wooden chairs to our dining room back in January and have genuinely enjoyed them. They feel sturdy, comfortable, and I’ve even had guests mention how nice they are! I may eventually add a tie cushion just for the look, but honestly—they don’t feel like they need one.

Last month, we added the upholstered dining chairs, and here was my shopping criteria:
• Slipcover – I wanted to be able to wash the fabric if needed.
• Wheels – I needed chairs that could roll, even over our jute rug. These do, and the wheel size is nice and large! (They even have a lock, but we don’t use it.)
• Price – At $138 a piece, they’re super affordable for an upholstered dining chair.
• Comfort – This is was a bit of a miss. The cushion is pretty firm—definitely not plush—but it’s not uncomfortable either. I think the upholstered arm chair look makes you expect more softness. The good news is the cushion has a zipper, so I imagine you could swap the foam if you wanted something plusher. We are good with it as is. 🛋️

So while they’re not, they hit 3 out of 4 of my boxes and I’ve been happy with them so far! 🤍
