If you are like me, you think mult-color lights are okay for your kid’s room, but not for the living room. I definitley prefer the warm white glow of my cluster lights and I’ve only ever used multi-color lights in my son’s room. However, I decided to break the rules this year and experiment with mult-color lights.

I like the color of the lights, but I’ve never thought they were really bright enough to really light up a room and if you know me, you know I love to light up a room with my Christmas lights! So, I decided to combine the multi-color lights with the cluster lights to see if I could still light up the room.

The result was a tree with over 10,000 lights! This is the most lights I have ever put on a tree and I do love it! I can’t wait to decorate it!

The cluster lights are bright enough to light up the room and the multi-color lights add a bit of fun Christmas magic and a feeling of nostalgia. I still remember my grandad putting up those old fashioned multi-color lights on the outside of their house.

So far I’ve left both the cluster and mult-color lights on, but if I wanted to turn off the multi-color lights and only have the cluster lights on, I could.

The most controversial thing I’ve ever said! 👇

Don’t go around and around your tree putting your lights on. Put them on top to bottom in a zig zag pattern.

When I posted this tip a few years ago, I quickly realized people have some strong feelings about their Christmas lights and how they put them on their trees.

Well, I said what I said. You should put your lights on your tree from top to bottom, not around and around your tree. It’s just that much easier!

If you put your lights on any other way, I encourage you to give this a try!

I used (2) 50 foot connectable cluster lights on the trunk of the tree. Then, I put (3) cascading lights on the top of the tree. Finally, I added (5) 75 foot snake lights on the branches.

This is a 10 foot full tree with a total of 8,000 warm white lights and 1,800 cascading lights.

Yes, they twinkle!

I added these lights using my top to bottom zigzagging zag method that makes lighting your tree so easy!

Talking lighting with me. Here in my family room I’ve used a total of 9,500 lights. On my 6.5 foot flocked tree, I used four 36.5 foot clear wire snake lights. Then, in my 60 inch wreath I popped in a 50 foot cluster light. My mantel has two of the 40 foot cluster lights. Finally, my 9 foot tree has one 40 foot cluster fown the trunk and three Holiday Hangups Warmer White snake lights on the branches. It looks so good, I might not decorate! Ha ha! Of course I’m going to decorate!
