I did the research so you don’t have to! This swap by far took the most research, because I found myself digging through contradictory information and a million caveats. I’ve boiled everything down and this is what I’ve found: ❌ Ditch immediately any plastic cutting boards. These shed microplastics into your food and are a major potential health hazard. 🤷🏻♀️ consider ditching cutting boards that use glue to hold pieces together. Surprisingly this covers a lot of wood, bamboo, and epicurean cutting boards. Unless the company specifically says formaldehyde free. ✅ single piece solid wood boards. Opt for hard woods that aren’t porous like walnut, cherry, teal, and acacia. It’s surprisingly hard to find single slab pieces without glued portions but I’ve linked a bunch below. ✅ natural rubber boards. These are expensive but a great option if maintaining a wood cutting board isn’t for you. These still need to be hand washed but they are easier on your knives and can be sanded down periodically if the surface gets rough. ✅ organic bamboo boards offer the cheapest option in the category. I’ve only linked one set because this was the only brand I found that I felt truly eliminated toxins in the gluing process and encouraged treating the board with walnut oil rather than petroleum-based mineral oil.
