But what does it actually mean in practice? I personally use it for two purposes; 1. To describe an item that has a cut and shape that can stand the test of time. It’s not a part of a trend, even tho it can definitely fall into trend now and then. It’s classic shapes that has been around for a long time and is still worn today without looking dated. It’s the backbone of fashion, the foundation all else is built from. 2. To describe an item that is timeless for you or me. Something we will want to use for a whole lifetime. These items might not be as classic and as widely loved as the above, but they are genuinely true to your style and serves as the backbone of your personal wardrobe. But for an item to be truly timeless, by both definitions, it needs to have the quality to last. An item in a timeless shape that will break is never a truly timeless piece. Timelessness is closely intertwined with quality. The pieces in our wardrobe that has both are the most valuable items we own.
