I posted this reel because I’m very excited about how I use these natural wicker baskets to carry laundry instead of plastic. They look and feel so much nicer, and I’ve found three of them thrift stores over the past few years for $3-5 each. But the Internet was very offended that I care so much about the aesthetics of my laundry, and confused about why I said it was $4 when they seem much more expensive where they live (I don’t think they read the caption that it was thrifted).
-Others didn’t like that I was getting rid of one thing in favor of another because it’s wasteful. (I still use the plastic one in my garage, but a thorough understanding of the situation is not really what IG and Facebook comments are for.)
-I also got some comments disgusted at the fact that my laundry is near my bed. (This is clean laundry, and it was for a video…)
-Finally, some people commented that the wicker ones are harder to clean or can get caught on clothes… The Internet is also not familiar with the concept, “To each their own.” 🙃
Honestly, I may have more offensive swaps in 2025! I love natural products instead of plastic!

Oh, and ironically, I did find one of these for under $10 online! Linked along with other bedroom items in my LTK.

This corner of my couch is probably my favorite spot in the house. And now I can actually see my decor books when I have my quiet Sunday morning reading time! 💡 I was picky replacing that vintage lamp and this one does not disappoint! This antique brass is so much better than the brushed plasicky-looking stuff you find in the big box stores. 🙌

Last summer I shared about how I swapped this faux stoneware Target sugar bowl, which went with my 2019 semi earthy/industrial contemporary kitchen remodel, for something more classic like I’m leaning now. Instagram and facebook showed it to 1 million+ people who did not understand why I would care so much to post about a sugar bowl. The comments ranged from, “But the first one goes better” to assuming I put the first one in the literal trash to “I hope you never have children” (that’s the only one I deleted) to “Xylitol is deadly to dogs.” It was the first time I had had so many comments from people who were so angry at me, and I started by providing thoughtful debate type responses to them, but soon learned that that was not how you deal with Internet haters. 🫠 There is a very important conversation to have about style/home feeling, waste, aesthetics, and how we weigh those values, but I don’t think the comments of an Instagram post that they spent a few seconds absorbing is where to have it. Neither is this post, I can’t do it justice here.

But those of you who are interested in adding some classic blue and white instead of the big box stuff of the past few years, I’ve been enjoying this one! I’ve been looking for them at antique stores for a long time and just haven’t found anything that works quite as well.

My favorite project of 2024 took forever and really weighed on me when I wasn’t sure how to finish it. But I love it so much now! This is my guestroom/office and it gets great light in the afternoons, and I love working in here, trying on clothes here, and just seeing it when I walk past it.

How is it that in 6.5 years of parenting no one has ever told me how hard it is to make a bunkbed… and somehow it didn’t occur to me until I was putting on all this cute matching bedding that my 4 and 6-year-olds do not make the bed themselves—it’s all me climbing up there. (I have been teaching them to strip the sheets, but that only gets us halfway there.)

I’m still working on Otto’s bedroom but for now I found him the cutest sheets and am playing with lots of blues in here. I’m a white sheet person but for a little boys room that just didn’t feel right. This blue and white gingham is so cute! The duvet cover has a little wave pattern. Both are from @petiteplume, they have a couple of new bedding patterns just out recently too.
I am still tickled about some of these other unique pieces in Otto’s room too! And I’m thinking of replacing those baskets with a dresser, what do you think?

The one time of year we put our children’s toys out on display. It’s just ironic that this wrapping paper is so nice and the things inside it are so hot pink plastic! Is it me or is it weird that there are trendy new stockings to buy every year? There are some very cute ones. But I thought having the same stocking every year was special to kids? Been slowly swapping out the very mass produced, appealing-to-the-masses stuff, but it takes time! I’ve looked for an antique to replace this little table/stool but haven’t been able to find one. This one is from @mcgeeandco and it’s so sweet. I like the darker color in here (also comes in a lighter shade) I love the fun shape on the legs!

I don’t have “the perfect” garland link for you or any special tips. My fireplace mantel garland usually intimidates me so I procrastinate. I also usually have it lit with a string of standard Christmas lights, but they just look so plasticy now. Maybe I should do fairy lights? Or maybe just let it be woodsy. Do you do the same garland every year or different?
