⤹ 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙔𝙤𝙪 𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝙗𝙮 𝘾𝙖𝙧𝙤𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙆𝙚𝙥𝙣𝙚𝙨 Years before the hit tv show You was put on Netflix, I sat glued to my Kindle for days reading You and Hidden Bodies. I’m not sure how the series came to be on my radar back then, but I knew by the third chapter of the first book, You would hold a special spot on my favorites list. I equate the comfort of reading about my favorite hopeless romantic and serial killer Joe Goldberg to the same familiar feeling I have when rewatching my comfort shows. If Ms. Kepnes writes a book in Joe Goldberg’s world, I will read it. Do I know that Joe is always going to love someone… perhaps to death? Yes. Do I know this man will always be a love bomber stuck in limerence until he’s not? Also, yes. But it is my guilty pleasure. The formula checks all of my boxes. I was hesitant to watch the show when it came out because I’m usually too critical on adaptations to enjoy them. Not this one. I loved seeing the characters come to life. The show doesn’t closely follow the books, but several of the same characters are used. The books and show are different enough that it’s like getting a picture of what could happen for Joe in an alternate universe. I say this to say that if you’ve watched the show and loved it, you should still check these books out. I dare say you’d enjoy them more knowing how things might’ve been for the ultimate lover of love, Joe.
