I tried to read books that broaden my horizon, teach me something new, or enlighten me to a viewpoint that might be different from my own. “Dear Denise: letters to the sister I never knew” by Lisa McNair is a collection of letters to Denise McNair, who was murdered in the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham Alabama. The letters were written by her sister who was born a year after her murder. My grandfather was in a nearby hospital in Birmingham at the time of the bombing and heard the explosion, so we have a family connection to the bombing.
