Checking in for another Tuesday Tip! Today I am talking about when and why we muddle when making cocktails.
Muddling is an essential technique in cocktail making that involves crushing ingredients, such as herbs and fruits, to release their flavors and aromas. Muddling can also be used to create unique flavor combinations and elevate simple drinks, which is perfect when you want to kick it up a notch at home without investing in too many ingredients or tools.
To muddle simply use a sturdy muddler to gently crush ingredients, releasing their flavors without turning them into a mush. You don’t want to muddle too aggressively with herbs, because you can bring out bitter flavors that way. This is another way of activating the essential oils so that they seep into the drink!
Enjoy!
