Functional corners... let's discuss...
How many friends have corners of their homes that are totally wasted? Do you have a sitting chair that no one sits in? An empty corner that collects backpacks? The hand me down antique table that you'd feel too guilty to get rid of?
A counselor once told me, "If it doesn't serve you, seek the strength to let it go!" The same is true in design. Repurpose those spaces into something that actually WORKS for you!!
Here are some sample ideas in my own home that may give you some ideas...
1. Master bedroom corner : This chaise lounge serves as a work space for me but also doubles as a place for the little ones to sleep when they get scared.
2. The teepee in Asher's room adds a decorative element of height and color but I also store a hamper of toys under that tent.
3. A cherry blossom tree in my girls' room provides extra light for their tiny desks but also serves as a whimsical night light.
4. A hanging canopy, with felt garland and fairy lights, offers a quiet reading nook in my little girls' room... but also becomes a baby doll storage area when they are done playing.
5. Technically, not a corner, since the air purifier permanently lives in my son's room now, but that simple desk is a great space for teenagers in need of a workspace and the deep drawers allow them to shove and hide all of their cords, electronics and knick knacks.
6. My favorite fiddle leaf adds life to a corner while the wicker basket hides extra blankets that the kids use to watch tv. Decorative and functional!
Let it go, embrace the change and add some
value to your home!
