I bought a children’s book on vacation. Are we surprised or are we surprised? We stopped into The Toy Chest while shopping yesterday in downtown Nashville, IN. They had so many amazing games, stem toys, and books!! But I knew this book HAD to come home with me! Althea Gibson was an incredibly talented tennis player. She was the first black person to win a trophy at Wimbledon and later went on to become the first black woman to play golf professionally. Althea was subjected to extreme hate and discrimination throughout her athletic career but, through determination and perseverance, she was able to achieve her dreams and prove herself to others. We read and learn about Althea Gibson when we read Nothing But Trouble and this book will be a great biography to add to the classroom library. My students always want to read more about the important people we learn about! LTKkids
