When researching diapers, I knew I wanted the best for my baby. He will wear roughly 2,500 diapers by his first birthday, so I wanted one that was absorbent, comfortable, durable, and made with clean ingredients and materials.  A newborn’s skin is thinner and more permeable than adults, and diaper materials make direct contact with their genitals, which are even thinner and more susceptible to exposure to harmful chemicals. Exposure to hazardous chemicals, air pollutants, and pesticides can lead to irreversible damage and impair your baby’s physical and cognitive development and general health.  Unfortunately, the Consumer Product Safety Commission loosely regulates diapers. It does not require manufacturers to disclose the ingredients used or test their products and materials for chemicals other than lead. A recent study found high levels of PFAS, VOCs, phthalates, formaldehyde, pesticides, and other harmful chemicals in mainstream and “clean” diapers. Because of the lack of regulations and ingredient transparency, it is difficult for consumers to make truly informed choices. Scroll through to learn more about the things I considered when choosing diapers!  Finding diapers that match this criteria may seem daunting, but there are many accessible options! I was worried that the clean diapers would look and feel like they were from a health food store, but my favorite brand is very high-quality.  safediapers nontoxicbaby babydiapers nontoxicdiapers lowtoxinbaby saferdiapers
