This room actually turned out pretty darn GREAT after much tweaking (and a big shout out to my favorite rug from our RugsUSA collection – the Merrick). It’s calm, cozy, high functional, and objectively well designed – it just turned out different than I had intended, although TBH I didn’t have a clear direction (thus the problem). It’s easy to keep neat/tidy (mostly thanks to the large closet down the hall – bless that closet) and on Sunday mornings I let the kids watch TV while I throw on the fire, read my romance novels, and feel so grateful that I have this beautiful, inviting, and cozy bedroom. And listen, the challenges were all self-imposed because this room is basically a new build so I also got to learn a lot. Win/win (kinda).

Here she is! I think our powder room turned out so sweet, fun, with some unexpected moments. Definitely not too simple, but full of character – probably how a powder bath should be. (Shout out to Rejuvenation for their articulating light and all the switches. I love how the sconce comes out from the side, slightly unexpectantly and creates such a fun vignette over the sink. It brings a little bit of polish and finish that balances out all the vintage in here!)

Another angle of our one month bedroom makeover for our photographer, Kaitlin. We mixed pieces she already had (like the walnut dresser from West Elm) with a few new pieces from Bed Bath & Beyond (can you believe the price on that wicker lamp?!). Sprinkle in some new bedding from Brooklinen and voila - a comfy, cozy, warm room that’s ready for the cooler months :)

We didn’t need a ton of storage in here, just enough for games and puzzles really. But the real problem that we had was not having a surface for lamps or drinks. Since the sofa is slammed up against the far wall and there was hardly any room for a side table on this side of it, we needed a sofa table. Enter this bookcase from Pottery Barn that fits PERFECTLY along the back of the sofa and is where my wine or tea sits when I’m watching TV (as well as those gorgeous lamps). It looks fully integrated and almost like it was professionally designed!

I DESIGNED AN AFFORDABLE RUG LINE! (That’s right - even the 100% wool 10’x14’ rugs are under $900 - and even more affordable with holiday sale pricing now!) I really leaned into “Scandinavian Farmhouse” for this first launch. Think simple, warm neutrals, and blues in vintage-inspired Scandinavian patterns and textures that feel really transitional, cozy, and classic.

Ready to host the holidays over here! The table was custom-sized from a design by Elsie Green – a small furniture maker (with reclaimed material) in the Bay Area. It’s incredibly perfect for this space. We needed narrow (but not too narrow) and really long (120″), and I wanted curved ends and some round legs to offset all the squares from the tile and the windows. The chairs could not be more perfect with the table – the soft curve on the back was also what I wanted (to offset the squares) and the velvet feels so warm, comfortable, and earthy in a room with no other textiles. This room needed fabric (as most rooms do) and not just wood chairs with wood table and wood credenza.

I love this view. We may live in an old farmhouse, but we’ve made it a home by mixing different styles from different eras. A midcentury chair, a farm table, some contemporary dining chairs, an antique cabinet. traditional sconces, a Victorian magazine rack, Japanese boro curtains…pretty looks good next to pretty, you know?

The best kids’ towels and bath mats are right here, folks. I usually turn to Target for outfitting my kids’ bath spaces - they’re soft, plush, high-quality, and they hood up great to repeated washings. (Anyone else still rocking their Target towels from 2009?) It doesn’t hurt that they’re really affordable, too. Highly recommend!

So thrilled with this traditional-meets-modern kitchen makeover we did in partnership with Crate & Barrel. (I’m their first-ever guest editor!) In this kitchen, we painted cabinets, refinished the ceiling, added an island, and tweaked the lighting…but we also made simple swaps, like adding in this brass hardware. I love how fresh it feels, especially when paired with this antique platter collection! (And how cute is that lamp? It’s on clearance now - run, don’t walk!)

PSA: I’ve found the best affordable outdoor seating. I bought these Adirondack chairs back in April when we were going to have people over for Easter and I really like them. They were super affordable ($99) and they fold down for easy storage. I was unsure of the quality and tone of the wood but so far I’m really happy with them and as you can see the wood looks good. I bought them thinking they would be our extra seating around the sports court when we have people over, just great floating furniture since they are lightweight and easy to move. Since they are real wood I don’t want to leave them out all winter (which is why I bought folding ones that are easy to store). BIG fan.

The original plan for this bedroom involved a dark limewash paint…until the client (one of my best friends) revealed that she wanted the space to feel like a “warm hug.” We kept her warm white walls, added a timeless velvet bed, pulled some modern nightstands (the tone speaks to the base of the bedframe!), brought in a huge mirror to bounce light around (also for outfit checks - she’s a fashion pro!), and layered in texture and life with these cozy linens, graphic drink table, and a few pieces of greenery. SUMMER SANCTUARY ACHIEVED.

The base layer of my living room is finally complete! I worked with two local PDX artists, Purl and Billy, to create my dream coffee table. It’s the perfect counterbalance to this textural blue rug, these gorgeous soft green sofas, and a midcentury modern-inspired statement lighting fixture.
