Have you ever heard of a HIDDEN PANTRY before? This is my second time to design a kitchen with a hidden pantry and let me tell you, in the right space, they are GAME CHANGERS. So, this 1970’s ranch style house as originally designed had a VERY narrow galley kitchen with no island and on the back wall, there was a doorway right in the middle of the kitchen that led to a pantry and laundry room and entry to the garage. My challenge, should I choose to accept it ( and oh you KNOW I did), was to remove that doorway somehow so that I could get a focal wall complete with a symmetrical vent hood and cabinetry on that back wall instead of looking into the kitchen to see an unsightly doorway into the laundry room. My solution? A HIDDEN PANTRY. We closed in the former doorway, got that beautiful symmetrical vent hood smack dab in the center of the back wall, then put matching cabinetry on either side of the vent hood BUT - the left side is actually a faux cabinet because when you open it, it leads you into a hidden pantry, the laundry room, and the entry into the garage. This allowed us to also get a small, functional island in this very narrow kitchen (I’m talking it was only 9 1/2 feet wide you guys). There is no way all of this would have been possible without the HIDDEN PANTRY CONCEPT. So what do you guys think. Would you ever consider doing a hidden pantry ?! Also if you have any questions let me know and I’m happy to answer!
