Fall Outfits I love this color palette year round but think it looks especially chic in the fall. Ivory shoes continue to make outfits feel fresh and in the form of a loafer doesn’t stray far from my classic sensibilities. FENDI’s new Origami bag is a nice introduction to the covetable handbag game and in taupe is a winner. LOULOU STUDIO’s cashmere blend coat is simple and beautiful. The clean lines make it suitable to wear over a variety of pieces from casual day looks to dressier evening. When I don’t feel like wearing loose slouchy jeans and want to be a bit more pulled together, I’ll toss on a dress. Wearing just a hint of the season in my outfits lately. Gatherings are casual, so I'm comfortable relying on pieces I'd wear on a daily basis. I'm simply introducing them in fresh colors or fabrics that feel more in line with the holidays. A cashmere sweater in pine green for starters. It pairs nicely with jeans anytime but I've been wearing them with a new favorite pant from Theory...in velvet. The silhouette is similar to a loose jean with an easy fit. I’ve dressed them up with silk blouses or a blazer.. A chunky polished loafer, low heel boot or even an elevated sneaker completes the look.

Some part of early Black Friday sales (they appear to be everywhere!), others just new and great, here are six items that caught my eye. A denim, leather wrapped apron, Jenni Kayne frayed linen napkins, or an Amber Interiors taper candle set are great things I’d want for myself – which translates to giftable hostess gifts too. Seasonal green and lovely gifts.

Around this time of year, I start to think about what I’d like to wear around the holidays. Usually something green comes to mind. But I need to consider practicality too and have options which agree with our warm winter weather. Co’s short sleeve sweater caught my eye and satisfies both needs. Same with the COS green silk scarf dress. I also love the shade of green in the cashmere neck scarf. Nice to wear over a simple tee. I’d take the theme a step further with these green jade quartz earrings. They’re simple and pretty.

I also start to think about gifts. The last few years, my favorite hostess gifts have been a beautiful vase or vessel (vintage is great!) casually filled with flowers or greens…or a homemade treat presented on a lovely serving piece. Astier de Villatte has always been a special option for that and NET-A-PORTER is now offering select pieces online.

Books are another favorite option. Probably because I love receiving them myself too. Any francophile, would certainly love Inside Paris for a visual escape.

And don’t dismiss the beauty of a fabulous room spray, especially one that speaks to the season. Diptyque’s Pine Tree in a mini size is perfect.

FALL MOOD

September is the month of a mental transition into fall. This is true especially in California where the weather hasn’t changed much, but my mind set has. I evaluate my closet relocating clothes that feel like summer to the back while bringing forward a fall palette. I want to see that color story first when I’m deciding what to wear.

Over the years I’ve parted with heavier pieces that were rarely worn (sadly) keeping just the things I’d need when traveling to cold weather destinations. It’s still a substantial lot since my favorite time to travel to Europe is offseason – winter preferably. I’ll talk about what those pieces are in another post…a capsule wardrobe reserved for travel.

But for most of September and October in California, I’ve learned the best way for me to feel like I’m dressing for the season is to wear a fall palette in lightweight fabrics. This year, I’m leaning heavily into the warm khaki tones, ochre, and camel with black, brown and ivory.
