Some part of early Black Friday sales (they appear to be everywhere!), others just new and great, here are six items that caught my eye. A denim, leather wrapped apron, Jenni Kayne frayed linen napkins, or an Amber Interiors taper candle set are great things I’d want for myself – which translates to giftable hostess gifts too. Jenni Kayne is currently 25% off making it a good time to stock up on the napkins and other essentials for the home. Amber Interiors is up to 30% off sitewide – another great shopping destination in the one-for-you, one-for-me category. I love a good sturdy apron and the simplicity of the Billy Reid design for Williams Sonoma is basic and good…pockets are a must.

For pure comfort, a cashmere sweater is my go-to. The weight on this style from Theory is light and the color is perfect for the season. Theory is also 25% off right now. Not on sale, but fabulous finds are Toteme’s double-clasp, leather trimmed wool coat and Andrea Gomez butter soft leather ballet flats (also available in black).

Seasonal green and lovely gifts.

Around this time of year, I start to think about what I’d like to wear around the holidays. Usually something green comes to mind. But I need to consider practicality too and have options which agree with our warm winter weather. Co’s short sleeve sweater caught my eye and satisfies both needs. Same with the COS green silk scarf dress. I also love the shade of green in the cashmere neck scarf. Nice to wear over a simple tee. I’d take the theme a step further with these green jade quartz earrings. They’re simple and pretty.

I also start to think about gifts. The last few years, my favorite hostess gifts have been a beautiful vase or vessel (vintage is great!) casually filled with flowers or greens…or a homemade treat presented on a lovely serving piece. Astier de Villatte has always been a special option for that and NET-A-PORTER is now offering select pieces online.

Books are another favorite option. Probably because I love receiving them myself too. Any francophile, would certainly love Inside Paris for a visual escape.

And don’t dismiss the beauty of a fabulous room spray, especially one that speaks to the season. Diptyque’s Pine Tree in a mini size is perfect.

I love a matching set!

When I spied these matching grey pieces, I knew I’d like the monochromatic look they’d create. I feel pulled together when I wear one color head to toe. It’s flattering on everyone. Make it grey – in a lightweight melange fabric with a nod to flannel – and I’m all in. The shirt is a yes, but I’m debating between the straight, slim pant (not my usual go-to) and a wide leg pleated style (ordered and on its way to me). Maybe it will be a yes to both!

I prefer a maxi length, but a midi or even knee length would work fine depending on your height. It’s the overall silhouette from the narrowness of the skirt that is appealing. ⁠

The black one I'm wearing is from Another Tomorrow (similar options linked below). I love a tailored skirt styled down with flat sandals and a thin knit. It feels as comfortable as wearing a pair of trousers. When I purchased the black skirt, I imagined styling it for dressy occasions, but now I see how it will work in a more casual rotation. ⁠

This is the old denim shirt I talked about yesterday. From the Gap, must be ten-plus years old. It’s a keeper and just gets better with age. Today, I’m styling it with another classic – Levi’s 501 jeans. The washes don’t match and that’s fine. I think they complement each other in vibe. From this point as a base, the styling options are many. Paired with yet another classic – Chanel ballet flats – the look is slightly elevated. I wore this to dinner the other night with a black blazer. The whole outfit felt very good on. Very much my personal style.

Trying on different jeans with denim shirts this week on A NOTE ON STYLE.

Today, I’m wearing a high rise, wide leg silhouette from MOTHER. I’ve had them for years and regardless of styles that come and go, I’ll keep these. They’re insanely comfortable (with stretch!) and no matter if I fluctuate a few pounds, they still fit. I almost always wear them with a tucked in shirt, blouse or cropped sweater to keep the focus on the high waist. The wider leg calls for a longer length meaning they’ll be paired with a slight heel for an elongated look. For those saying this style only works on tall figures, I say give them a try. There’s a reason MOTHER has them available in PETITE sizes and a bestseller.

Denim shirts are very on trend this season but have been a staple in my closet for years. I have one in a faded wash from ten years ago (similar) and just purchased a clean, darker wash style from Madewell. This is not an area I need to spend a lot on. The fit, wash, and softness of the fabric are what’s important. The Madewell shirt is true to size (wearing a medium) and under $100.

Wearing Levi's with a striped shirt and an old S'Max Mara cashmere jacket from 4 or 5 years ago. It's a classic and I also have it in black.⁠

Tod's sneakers, Bottega bag...oldies but goodies. The Bottega Andiamo bag is still readily available in numerous sizes and colors. I love this funky color (Acorn if I remember correctly) that looks so much more interesting with everything it's paired with. Adding one piece that's slightly off is a styling bit I use often.⁠

Somewhat newish are the Alaia perforated Mary Janes. They're as comfortable as the simple Ava style I have from The Row, but add a little more personality with the pattern.⁠

When I love a piece I know I'll wear a lot, I often buy it in another color. That goes for this look. I also have the Dries jacket in black and the BW pants in brown.⁠

Pulling looks together from my September MOODBOARD layering in soft pieces and wearing them more casually.

Wearing a @twpclothing voile shirt (also have it in navy). I’d layer a structured field coat over this look and ground it with suede flats.
Pairing with dark khaki, ochre, or any sort of off color gives it the look I’m after for fall.
