I get a lot of DM’s and emails from women telling me how much they envy my confidence, as a plus size momma and that they wished they could be brave enough to even pose for a picture fully clothed, let alone with a bathing suit on. I have to go to war with my mind when I look in the mirror and see the dimples in my thighs, the stretch marks on my butt and the belly that still sags low after three babies and a c-section. I have to remind myself that I am MUCH more than the sum of the numbers that I see staring back at me when I step on the scale. I have to wipe away the tears in the dressing room when the 1X doesn’t fit anymore and I have to sheepishly ask the sales associate for a size bigger (and in some stores, they don’t even have sizes big enough). I have to remind myself that even though I almost never see my body type represented in the media, I AM STILL BEAUTIFUL. I have to tell myself this EVERY SINGLE DAY. You see, body confidence doesn’t just happen. It comes with training your mind to focus on the positive. Instead of seeing all the things my body isn’t, it’s celebrating all the things that my body is. Woman, Wife, Mother, Daughter of the Most High, Fearfully and Wonderfully Made, Smart, Loved, Beautiful. So friend, I share this tonight to say, it’s not easy for anyone, but the more we force ourself to push past the LIES in our minds, the more freedom we will feel. So...show up this summer. Buy the bathing suit you really want, even if it shows off the rolls you’re desperately trying to hide. And wear it PROUDLY! No more hiding. No more self loathing. No more negative talk. Show up.
