In this photo, you can see a dresser I refinished. The top part labeled "Before" shows the dresser with its original dark, glossy finish, which had a somewhat dated look. The bottom part labeled "After" showcases the dresser after I used a technique called faux wood grain to make it look like real wood. To achieve this effect, I first sanded down the entire piece to remove the old finish and smooth out the surface. I then applied a base coat of paint in a light, neutral tone. Once the base coat was dry, I used a oil-based stain to create realistic wood grain patterns by dragging a chip brush through the stain applied over the base coat.
