Plus, when the time comes, you can work with a professional landscaper to create the perfect outdoor oasis! 2.     Swimming pool and outdoor living spaces: Building a swimming pool and outdoor living spaces can be expensive and time-consuming. These require a lot of thought process and planning. You don’t want to rush in with this decision. 3.     Finished basement and additional rooms: Consider postponing the construction of additional rooms such as a home theater/home gym/office and focus on finishing the essential living spaces first. 4.     Custom cabinetry: Custom cabinetry can be a significant expense. Stick with standard cabinetry for now. Take your time and decide the layout you want. May be DIY later too! 5.     Smart home technology: Smart home technology can be convenient, but it can also be expensive.
