Details on how we created this look for our kitchen: 1. Mounted four cabinets to the wall. The bottom cabinets are 30x24”, and the upper cabinets are 30x18”. All the cabinets are technically wall cabinets. 2. Installed black cabinet pulls to each cabinet. 3. Cut the butcher block to 50x14”. We wanted it to extend slightly so our microwave would fit perfectly. 4. Sanded the butcher block using a palm sander—first with 320 grit, then again with 600 grit. 5. Applied one coat of Jacobean stain. After it dried, we sealed it with three clear coats of polyurethane and let it sit for about a day to fully harden. Then we mounted it to the base cabinets. 6. Cut the beadboard to fit perfectly between all the cabinets and glued it to the back wall. 7. Caulked the beadboard and painted two coats of Chantilly Lace by Benjamin Moore. In part two, we’ll be adding shelves between the upper cabinets—so stay tuned!
