Here are Sarah’s simple steps to create a beautiful holiday table — whether you’re entertaining your mahjong group or your entire extended family,

1. If you have something meaningful, use it. Every year, Sarah adds to her collection of Christmas plates and loves the chance to use them.
2. Use simple greenery, like magnolia branches and pinecones from your yard.
3. Add store-bought pomegranates and cinnamon sticks for holiday flourish at little cost. (Sarah’s came from Costco.)
4. Christmas-tree ornaments make terrific place “cards” and can be a thoughtful gift for guests as well.
5. Relax and enjoy your friends and family!
