Since it’s officially been a year since becoming a mom I thought I’d post a few of my findings for what happens in a woman’s body one year after having a baby. I think it’s so important to know about the changes especially as a therapist working with women in all stages of life.
📊 One Year Postpartum: Hormonal Insights for New Moms.
🔬 Research shows that even a year after giving birth, hormones can still be on a rollercoaster ride! Here’s what you need to know:
- 🌸 Estrogen & Progesterone: Usually back to normal within 2 months, but some moms might experience imbalances for up to a year.
- 🍼 Prolactin: If you’re breastfeeding, levels stay high. Otherwise, they normalize within weeks.
- 🦋 Thyroid: Watch out for postpartum thyroiditis - it can last up to a year and cause mood swings!
- 😰 Cortisol: Stress hormone might stay elevated, especially if you’re dealing with postpartum anxiety or depression.
- 💖 Oxytocin: The “love hormone” keeps fluctuating, influencing your mood and bond with baby.
Remember, every mom’s journey is unique. If you’re concerned about your hormones, don’t hesitate to chat with your doctor. You’ve got this, mama! 💪👶
