How to style a button down ‘boyfriend’ shirt…

I love dresses for summer but I also have a tomboy side to me and there are days that I just want to throw on jeans and a t shirt or men’s button down shirt with loafers, Ballet flats or trainers and go. It’s become one of my go-to mum uniforms when I’m pressed for time but want to look put together but still feel like myself.

Great jeans, tank top and striped knit outfit idea. This is my go to look when I’m in a hurry!

Favorite tank at the moment is the Blondie from Perfect White Tee. Jeans are high waisted and cropped with slightly wider leg, Rib Cage Flare by Levi’s and Cardi is the striped ‘lady’ jacket from J Crew. There are so many great colors available now, some are very Chanel inspired, but of course I went for the stripes! Trainers are Comme des Garçons Play x Converse. I have these in white lo and black hi.

Shit I bought on instagram (part 2) …
Salt & Stone’s award-winning deodorant, body mist & body wash in Santal & Vetiver scent.

I was on the hunt for a great aluminium-free natural deodorant that smelled nice and I had tried almost everything on the market but I either wasn’t crazy about the scent or the residue, until I discovered Salt & Stone.

It’s sort of like Aesop and le Labo had a baby and made it less expensive but it still has all natural, high quality ingredients in it (spirulina, kelp and seaweed). The fragrance is subtle but elegant, I like that it isn’t over powering and the products can be used together and layered without an intoxicating effect.

The body wash lathers really nicely and leaves a subtle scent behind, it’s great layered with the hand cream and body mist. The deodorant lasts all day and I can still smell it working even after hot sweaty humid Floridian summer days!!

I like masculine musky fragrances just FYI so if you’re not into that then try one of the other 2 equally popular scents: the Bergamot & Hinoki or the Black Rose & Oud.

What to wear to a kids birthday party/ outdoor BBQ / pool party…

Having moved from the UK to Florida not long ago my wardrobe was totally unprepared for this type of dressing. Our kids parties were mostly at indoor play centres and pubs and now we are poolside in 100 degree sun with water activities that usually involve the parents.

I’m still looking for great easy wardrobe
staples that look casual but put together for these events, but I had to trade my heavy midi dresses and jeans for lighter weight shorter dresses, pull on shorts, onesies and oversized boyfriend shirts.

Gap x Doen collab, what I am keeping and what I am returning.

I managed to snag 3 pieces in my size before the collab was sold out (20 mins after it went live). I would say the sizing is running large on almost all styles, which is consistent with the Doen sizing (I am a US size 4 and buy an XS in almost all Doen pieces). So side down if in doubt!

1 - The oversized striped boyfriend shirt with broderie eyelet collar detail in size XS. I love this, it’s good quality cotton and has nice side vents. The cut is good and the collar is a nice Doen touch. Defo keeping! Runs very oversized!!

2- The floral slip ‘tea dress’ which is a signature Doen shape and print, and would cost upwards of $350 from their collection but is $128. I was impressed with the quality and fit on this piece. It has a side zipper, velvet bow and piping around the neck and is fully lined. It is a viscose blend which I don’t love and came quite wrinkled so will need a steam before I wear it but otherwise I love it! I bought size 4 in this and it fit perfectly. There is also a tie in the back so you can adjust it if needed to make tighter on the waist.

3- The white broderie eyelet dress was slightly disappointing. It runs large, I bought the Small and need an XS as the top is cute quite generously. The straps are elastic and I imagine will stretch out quite easily and the dress is unlined and pretty sheer especially through the middle where your underwear are. At $158 I think I will return it and buy something for the girls instead!

My first #OOTD video

I had a few people asking where my sweater was from in the shop launch video so I am talking you through the products here and will link everything for you. Most of the things I am wearing are ‘core’ products or best sellers from these brands which means they make them every season because they sell so well.

The striped jumper is the Leontine knit from Sezane, which I bought a good 2 years ago and still wear all the time. They have made it this season in a bright blue stripe (which sold out straight away) and a camel stripe as well as the navy stripe which I’m wearing, both colours are still available.

The jeans are one of my secret finds that I probably shouldn’t share but they are too good not to. These are the Katherine wide leg culottes from Mango. (I have already bought 2 of each color in case they sell out or discontinue them so shop away!) I am usually a size US 4 but had to size up to a us 6 in these so go up if you aren’t sure. They are narrow in the hips but have a bit of stretch to them.

The gold braided flats are also from 2 summers ago and are still available at Sezane, but I will also link a similar option at J Crew this summer (the heeled gold version is also nice as is the bright blue heeled version at Sezane).

The jewellery is from NYC based designer Roxanne Assoulin. I am obsessed with puffy heart jewellery this summer and she has the best oversized and mini puffy heart necklaces and matching earrings in gold and silver. I also love her candy coloured necklaces and bracelet stacks. I mixed my beaded bracelet stack in affogato here with the wheat and link chain bracelet set. Again, these are pieces I wear almost every day (just remember to take them off when you shower or go swimming to prolong the life as they are gold plated).

Ode to Stripes, part 1 (of many)…

If you like stripes then you’re in the right place. I have a slight obsession with buying new striped pieces every season, it’s an easy way to instantly update your wardrobe without breaking the bank or trying to hard to be on trend (because stripes are timeless and never go out of style, and you can never have too many striped jumpers no matter what someone tells you).

Here are some recent ways I have been styling my stripes, I have linked some great updates in my LTK shop today from striped menswear shirts (favorite daughter and with nothing underneath are great) the perfect striped mariner tops (la ligne and sezane are personal favs) and striped PJs from petite plume, polo shirts from other stories and j crew. Some hair styling tips for wavy & unruly hair in a humid climate…

Since I moved to Florida I have been battling with my hair on a daily basis. I cut it short thinking that would make my routine a bit easier but it’s actually made it harder to style. These are some of my favorite products that combat humidity, and make my blow out last a bit longer.

I start my routine with Color WOW ‘dreamcoat’ spray which is meant to help smooth out frizz. You section the hair and spray liberally and then blow dry each section. The spray is activated by heat and lasts for 2-3 shampoos (like a mini Brazilian blow out).

I then spray on some root lift spray by La based stylist Roz and use my new L’brise air styler to rough dry and then section dry my hair. This is truly a miracle hair tool for me, I am terrible at doing my own hair and this makes me look like I’ve come straight out of a salon and the volume and shine last for several days. It has saved me a lot of money on salon blow dries since purchasing it!

Once my hair is dry I use my favorite hair oil from Roz hair Santa Lucia styling oil to smooth, protect and add shine. It also smells incredible. This is a genie in a bottle product and can be used on wet or dry hair. I discovered it after watching countless videos of Carrie Mulligan and Emma Stone having their hair done by celebrity stylist Roz for the Oscars.

Finally I set my hair with the anti-humidity spray from Oribe, another great product that helps protect the hair from humidity and reduces frizz.

To be clear I do this once a week if I’m lucky, not every day!! I usually spend my Saturday or Sunday morning when I have more time ! During the week days it’s usually hair up and dry hair spray (the fairy dust spray from Dae is my new fav leave in product To prolong your blow dry for days!)
