HOW TO START ACTIVITIES WITH YOUR KIDS! ⬇️
Obviously I'm a HUGE advocate of at-home kids' activities and providing your children with opportunites for exploration and discovery everyday. However, I also know that I have a background and a lot of experience in childhood education. I have a masters degree in Elementary Education and was a third grade teacher before having babies! I have put in A LOT of time and practice to get to the level of comfort and confidence I have to carry out these learning activities with my girls each day.
Those years of first-hand experience reduced the stress I have towards teaching my children pretty much down to nothing. I know I can do it. BUT I WOULDN'T FEEL THAT WAY WITHOUT TIME AND PRACTICE. Like everything, you need to jump in, try, and simply do your best.
Start small and celebrate small victories. Have a goal of actively engaging your child for 3 minutes and then when that's achieved, try for 5 minutes and so on overtime.
The small victories will compound, your child will learn expectations, and your confidence will grow!
My top advice: Begin early with basic sensory exploration for infants, gradually incorporating more materials and concepts as they grow. Focus on sensory exploration and motor skills. Then, super simple activities like color and shape recognition and basic counting can start between 12-24 months, then evolve to more complex versions as your child becomes comfortable. For preschoolers, advanced storytelling and math concepts can be introduced.
Always prioritize positive reinforcement and adapt activities to your child's pace and interests. This approach fosters a love of learning and prepares your child for school, building their skills and confidence step by step.
