lucid ladybug love: smithville, nj engagement ✨

“A connection through our dear friend, Steph led to lucid ladybug meeting up with the couple in Smithville, NJ this November to capture engagement photos. We personally love when couples share a private engagement and save photos for a later date.

Once a stagecoach stop, Smithville’s original building was purchased in 1952 by Fred and Ethel Noyes. They restored the building into their antique shop and eventually into a restaurant called The Smithville Inn.
 Smithville is a favorite SJ spot - especially during the holiday season with the train ride and the carousel overlooking Lake Meone. It was the perfect place to capture Nick + Steph’s vintage-inspired engagement photos. We met just before sunset on November 23 and I had a blast puttering around Smithville with them - snapping pics of them holding hands, sneaking smooches and riding the famous carousel together.

Did you know the carousel at Smithville is from Wichita, Kansas?

Nick rocked his vintage leather jacket and Steph paired a vintage-style skirt perfectly with her denim jacket and patent leather Mary Janes.

The joy and love radiating from the two of them outshined the gorgeous sunset we watched over Lake Meone. We ended our session in the gazebo for a quick twirl and glance at the Christmas lights leading up to the Inn.” continue reading on our wedding blog ✨

the story behind the vintage wedding fur stole ✨

“Tucked in the back of her closet was her late Mother, Irene Evelynne Polansek’s vintage fur stole - in mint condition no less. When Carol found it - she knew I had to have it. Little did she know I was on the hunt for one already - a match made in heaven, literally!

Carol’s Mom, Irene worked for Arnold Constable & Company as a Junior Buyer when Carol was in high school in the 1950s. At one point Arnold Constable & Company was the oldest department store in America - operating for over 150 years from its founding in 1825 to its closing in 1975.

Irene loved her job and was a true fashionista long before it was trendy for women to work.”

I feel so honored and humbled to share the stories and legacies of women who have walked before me. Women who shaped, changed, and challenged history. Wearing Irene’s fur on our wedding day was extra sentimental - sharing her story is just as special.”

Stunning flowers of the highest quality adorned every inch of our 1926 historical venue (@communityhouseweddings). He made sure local NJ flowers were included in our arrangements from the @jerseycutflowermarket and worked with our uniquely curated lucid ladybug assorted vintage vessels.

Wildly romantic and antique with textures to grab your attention - each table was uniquely captivating.

Our vessels were all vintage - brass spittoons and vases, crystal bud vases, vintage bar pitchers, and decanters - each offering a different variety for our guests to admire.”

“After a traditional church ceremony complete with communion and an upcycled petal toss, 160 guests paraded down the main street to the black-tie cocktail hour and reception at the Community House of Moorestown.

A 1962 Vintage European Vespa greeted guests with a Prosecco Pour. Family and friends were ushered to their escort cards and favors - vintage coupe glasses - to fill with local wine or signature cocktails - “The Lenny” or “The Flo Baby”, inspired by the couple’s late grandparents.

A Modern vintage floral design by Flora and Dean with custom-curated vintage vessels and vases added a unique touch to the church, lobby, library, club room, garden room, and ballroom. Vintage brass candlesticks, spittoons, bar trays, crystal bud vases, bar pitchers, mirrors, decanters, and upcycled candles were all intentionally and sustainably sourced for the 1926 mansion.

Prosecco bottles poured as guests entered the ballroom with live music by the Slippery Band. A night spent on the dance floor, the bride surprised everyone with a special performance on stage. A cigar bar with vintage ashtrays, custom matches, and coasters offered guests the perfect nightcap under the stars with cake and coffee in hand.”

our traditional wedding ceremony ✨

“It was important to Ryan and I that our marriage was blessed in a church by a priest. I grew up Methodist and Ryan grew up Catholic, and together we found a beautiful harmony of our Christian faith and upbringing at Trinity Episcopal Church.

We knew we wanted something that felt comfortable to both of us and meeting Mother Emily was truly one of the greatest blessings of our wedding journey. In our faith, marriage is a sacrament - symbolizing Christ’s union with his Church. The union of our souls is an outward expression of Christ’s love for His people and the only sacrament that requires two people.

Wet met monthly with Mother Emily for the entire year leading up to our wedding day. It was a special time carved out each month to reflect on our relationship’s journey and to dream and pray for our future together.

We worked through The Marriage Journey by Linda Grenz & Delbert Glover - which we highly recommend. Whether you’re religious or not - I suggest finding a book or workbook to study together in preparation for your marriage. The foundation upon which you build your marriage is already in the works - take time to strengthen this with open, honest conversations and intentional time set aside to remember why you’re entering marriage.”
