Lighting can make (or break) a room — in how it feels AND how it functions! Besides general or ambient lighting (ceiling pot lights for us), you want/need accent and task lighting. Often, the same fixture serves both. Try for a mix of lighting direction. Open shelving and islands are lit from above with light shining downward. It was important to find swing arm fixtures to flank my sink with light directed up but still lighting the sink area. Success!
